Does Having a Mentor Help You With Your Home Business?

I am asked this question many times, during my one-on-one consultations with struggling home business owners.  In a nutshell, having a mentor is not only help you, it is essential for the success of your business.  Mentors truly introduce an element into your marketing efforts that will surely place you way above your competition.

Look at it this way, when we are kids in school, often all we can think about is becoming an adult for the freedoms involved.  Then we become adults, we get out on our own and wish we had someone to tell us what to do.  No matter how much education we get under our belts, every one of us will be presented with business scenarios and situations that no book or lecture could have prepared us for.  This is where a mentor can be so useful.

Think of a mentor as a student advisor in this continuing education course called Life.  Your mentor is there to advise you, give you pep talks and even scold you when you need a good swift kick to get you going in the right direction.  A mentor has (in many cases at least) been where you are and their perspective can give you some insight into the potential outcomes of your business decisions on a day to day basis.  That insight may come because they made good choices when faced with similar decisions in the past or because they made bad ones.  Either way, they learned from their past and now you have the luxury of their experience.

Mentors are in a unique position to see things from the perspective of a disinterested third party.  Unlike friends, relatives or colleagues, a mentor will tell it like it is with your best interests in mind and without worrying about what you think of their opinions.  The best mentors are those who will constantly challenge your ideas and push you to do the same and as a result mentors often do not make good friends.

A mentor teaches us to teach ourselves.  That is, they show us the importance of questioning our own ideas before someone else does so that we have the proper responses in place before we need them.

Having the right mentor, is also very important.  As I was learning the home business industry, I basically tried to have success under the leadership of my upline. That was a mistake because he was basically unaware of all the modern techniques that we have at our disposals today. As I became more networked in the business, I was lucky enough to find a mentor who was willing to take me under his wing & teach me the real deal about network marketing today.

After coming across this mentor, my business has grown tremendously.  He was able to share with me the correct tools that helped me grow my business consistently.  Because of this blessing, I'm providing this same coaching, to other networkers out there that are not experiencing the success they work hard for and deserve.
